The weekend from November 8th to November 10th will not only be the occasion to participate or attend a great sporting event like the one of the Ravenna Marathon City of Art. All of Romagna, but especially the historical, cultural and architectural beauties of the Byzantine capital will be in the spotlight for three long days characterized by initiatives of all kinds.
And in this period all of Ravenna will be able to show off the many tourist and artistic attractions that history has left to it as a precious inheritance.
In recent days, the last conventions have been defined that provide innumerable advantages to all participants in one of the many events sports organized by Ravenna Runners Club, by Martini Good Morning Ravenna 10.5K at the Dogs & Run, by the Conad Family Run up to the 42 km of the Marathon, valid this year as Absolute Italian Championship and Master in Banking and Insurance Championships.
First convention was defined with RavennAntica, the foundation established for the enhancement, also for tourism purposes, of the archaeological, architectural and historical-artistic heritage. This agreement provides free entry to the Domus of Stone Carpets, one of the most important and well-known Italian archaeological sites, in addition to the splendid Rasponi Crypt and Hanging Gardens, one of the most beautiful and evocative corners of the city with the famous fountain and monumental portico. The bib will also be valid for admission to the Classis Ravenna, Museum of the City and the Territory, the exhibition area obtained in the former sugar factory of Classe which tells the city from its Etruscan-Umbrian origins to Roman antiquity, from the Gothic phases and Byzantine until the Middle Ages. In all the sites already listed there are discounts and cumulative tickets for accompanying persons and family members of athletes.
On Friday 8th, Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th November 2019, by presenting the race number, all the athletes they will also be able to visit the MAR, the Ravenna Art Museum for free, and access the reduced price of Euro 7,00 for the exhibitions “Riccardo Zangelmi Forever Young” and “Chuck Close Mosaics” set up for the Contemporary Mosaic Biennial.
Also, for the second consecutive year, the agreement signed with the Polo Museale Emilia Romagna. In this case, the agreement includes an entry ticket for Euro 2.00 for a group guided tour of the Palace of Theodoric and Euro 4,00 for the entrance ticket to the Theodoric Mausoleum on Friday 8, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 November.
Finally, a few days ago the collaboration with the Diocese of Ravenna was also renewed. All athletes and carers who visit the diocesan monuments from 8th to 11th November, and therefore also on the Monday following the Marathon, will receive a reduced entry by presenting the race number. The same discounts will also be granted to an accompanying person. The list of diocesan monuments includes some of the most famous sites recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites: the Basilica of San Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo, the Neonian Baptistery, the Archiepiscopal Museum and the Chapel of Sant’Andrea. In addition, participants in the Marathon events and their families will be granted an additional 10% discount on purchases made in the bookshops of diocesan monumental assets.
In short, Ravenna Città d’Arte is ready or underline ever more the strong union between history, culture and sport thanks to a synergy that will help to show the whole world the breathtaking beauties jealously guarded and safeguarded from the passage of time.
