A 42 km long challenge to prove to herself and to other cancer patients that a diagnosis of cancer is not a sufficient reason to abdicate one’s dreams and passions: will it be enough to cross the finish line of the Ravenna Marathon to confirm oneself stronger than cancer?
This is what Cristiana Di Pietrantonio, athlete of the SuperMarathon Club and great protagonist of the new charity project that binds Ravenna Runners Club and Istituto Oncologico Romagnolo will try to discover.
“When the IOR asked me to participate in this event I did not want to believe it: I was moved – he explained – I have wonderful memories of my participation in the Ravenna Marathon but unfortunately, in my condition, I could never hope to arrive by time limit. I have been suffering from lung cancer for a year and a half: I am aware that the data on this disease indicate a maximum survival of about 5 years, but I do not care. Will I live another three years? I don’t know, I don’t care, I know I want to do it my way: running, and with a smile on my face ”.
Truly a splendid example for all those who will take part in the Marathon but not only. To help her in the enterprise, Ravenna Runners Club has also decided to entrust her with two “balloons”: two pacers, who will help accompany her to the finish line. And if Cristiana fails to cut it within the time limit, it doesn’t matter: we will all be there to wait for her and applaud her anyway.

The Oncological Institute of Romagna is a non-profit founded in 1979 to support public facilities and patients in the management of cancer prevention and treatment. In these 42 years, his activity has focused on two main fields: support for scientific research, a commitment that has also led to the foundation of a structure of excellence such as the IRST in Meldola; and provision of free services, such as home assistance and accompaniment, for the sick and their families. The IOR has also contributed significantly to the improvement of the Romagna cancer network, donating cutting-edge machinery and devices to the various hospitals for increasingly precise, accurate and early diagnosis.
The Ravenna Marathon confirms itself at the same time as a great sporting event and a reference point in the social and welfare field of the Romagna area. For the 2021 Ravenna Marathon
it further implements this predisposition to help the territory, with a new and interesting «ONLUS project». The doors of the famous sporting event will open for all non-profit organizations and non-profit organizations in the Third Sector who want to take the opportunity to increase their visibility through the “Maratona container”.
The organization concerned will have to propose itself as a registration point for the MARTINI Good Morning Ravenna 10 KM, a place that will be communicated on the event website, then it will be its task to raise awareness among the members of the registration deed. The other necessary steps will be to promote its status as charity partner of the Hoka Maratona di Ravenna and to carry out a promotional campaign through the respective information channels and towards the similar public, not necessarily sports.
Why join the project? To be able to take advantage of exclusive and advantageous conditions for your association. By collecting the registrations, the non-profit organizations will in fact be able to withhold part of the amount collected to be used necessarily for their own specific project.
The first step to become an “Onlus Partner” of the Hoka Maratona di Ravenna Città d’Arte 2021 will be to send the request to the email firstname.lastname@example.org, then all the other steps will be taken until the creation of one’s own group of supporters and the launch of an reachable solidarity challenge.
